What is Firefly Linux?

Firefly Linux is a lightweight operating system designed with netbooks in mind. Firefly Linux Float, our main edition of Firefly, comes with the small and fast LXDE desktop environment and many popular applications to help you make the most out of your netbook. Firefly Linux isn't under-powered and doesn't limit you to a "netbook-oriented" interface - you get a full Linux distribution (based on Arch Linux) in a tiny package, designed for your netbook.

Features:

Firefly Linux is optimized for netbooks. Wifi works out of the box, along with sound and graphics, delivering a hassle-free setup.

Firefly Linux is powerful. Based on Arch Linux, Firefly uses the quick Pacman package manager as well as Yaourt, for a selection of thousands of applications at your fingertips.

Firefly Linux is tiny. Unlike other CDs weighing 700MB, Firefly packs in all of the features in less space.

Firefly Linux is ready for whatever you throw at it. Many popular applications are preinstalled, such as OpenOffice and Adobe Flash Player.

Installation

If your computer has a CD drive, simply burn the ISO you downloaded, pop it in the CD drive, and reboot.

However, not many netbooks have CD drives. You'll need to download UNetbootin, a tool for burning ISOs to a USB stick. You'll need a 1GB stick (technically, a 560MB stick should do). Select "Disk Image" and point to your downloaded ISO file. When booting, select "Start Firefly Linux," NOT "Default."
